What can I say…my job as a food photographer is so…WONDERFUL.
For a few days, mon petit studio was filled with selections of surfaces, linens, spoon, scoops, cups, bowls, boards, and more, in addition to the quarts of Madisono’s Gelato’s prized frozen products ~ covered with large pieces of paper labeled ‘DO NOT TOUCH ~ OR ELSE’, in bold black sharpie.
Fielding the question, ‘Aren’t you finished with them yet?‘ being a constant, I don’t know which was trickier, working and styling frozen deserts, or warding off husband and children.
In the end, a whole year’s worth of new promotional imagery was created for Madisono’s Gelato. Not to mention we were the recipients of more than a few quarts, sticks and balls of edible love.
In addition to sharing some of the imagery from the shoot, I also wanted to touch on the importance good (great) design plays in the process of creating imagery for marketing pieces, websites, informational brochures, etc. How much more elevated an image and it’s message becomes with beautiful, thoughtful design elements.
To be successful, imagery and design must integrate seamlessly to share the full story, the brand, the message. One without the other only tells half the story.
For this project, it was Margo Madison and Lisa Ballard who were the creatives behind the design, graphics, and illustrations that grace over the images, pulling the visual story together.
Being part of the process from the start, with everyone understanding the direction, feel and goal of the project, brings a certain excitement in seeing each step mature and finally, the finished work being used in it’s intended mediums.
Here is a sampling of some of the imagery alone and then completed with design and illustration.
Thank you Matt Madison for letting me go wild propping, styling and making pretty pictures with all your delectable flavors and colours of gelatos, sorbets, pops, and tortufos.
