Where Women Cook | Chef Frances Kroner

For the past year, I have been a contributing photographer for the Where Women Cook/Create and Create Business quarterly magazines, which are dedicated to sharing stories by empowering women, of whom are following their passions.
I’m honored that the editors have asked me to share with them amazing women from my own backyard, who are blazing their own authentic paths. Chef Frances Kroner, of FEAST/Random Snacks of Kindess/Sleepy Bee Cafe, is one of the women I suggested, and who is now sharing her story in this month’s Where Women Cook magazine.
I have to add that, while I, of course, knew that my images of her would be inside the magazine, it never occurred to me that one would grace the cover. When the magazine arrived in the mail, I was so unbelievably surprised, and, so incredibly happy for both of us.
This marks my very first cover for a national magazine, and I am in love with the fact that it’s of one of Cincinnati’s own, much adored & fabulously talented, female chefs – Frances Kroner.

Though Frannie’s story covered 5 spreads (10 pages), of course not all of what I photographed could be included in the magazine, so here are some extra’s that I wanted to share.
You can, and should, pick up your very own copy either online HERE, or from Barnes & Noble, and read Frannie’s story – maybe even while enjoying her Flourless Torte with Chocolate Hazelnut Meringue recipe – which she so wonderfully shares with us.

I first dropped by to see Frannie, at Oakley’s wildly popular restaurant, Sleepy Bee Cafe, where Frannie cooked up some of the cafe’s favorites for me to photograph & where we made some Frannie style portraits.

We set up a separate day to meet at her home – specifically, the heart of her home, the kitchen, to round out the story. As you will clearly see, it’s  – oh so eclectic, hip and all around one of a kind – much like her.
I had such fun spending the afternoon with Frannie, and her now oldest little boy, Avi, photographing and tasting some of what she created for our shoot – all while 8+ months pregnant, I might add. (Baby brother, Easton, arrived in December.)
Though this photo essay was completely for the magazine, I found myself documenting sweet moments of, not only ‘Chef Frances Kroner’, but also, ‘mommy Frances Kroner, and her little boy’ – a la, a day in a life – one of my most favorite ways to catch the everyday and in-between magic of this beautiful life.
I have to say, that this is one of my most favorite sessions, to date.
