Do you market yourself through your food photography?
Yes, we are photographers, but we shouldn’t stop at our finished images.
But we are also running a business, and should always be thinking about promotional materials for our businesses – like marketing collateral, our websites, our blogs, etc. – which is where a little design comes in.
I wrote about it in this post as well.
Magic happens when great photography marries great design.
They are both elevated.
Tip:
Whether a client job, or a personal project, be open to recognizing, or, purposefully creating images that can work as promotional materials, during your photo shoot.
Once you’ve got your images:
- Don’t be afraid to play and experiment with adding copy and design to them with programs like Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
- If you don’t feel qualified, there are many companies that offer ready made templates, and customizable templates and designs to help you, such as CANVA and Creative Market.
- Collaborating with a graphic designer to create something together that promotes both of your businesses is another great option.
- Come up with a design or theme per quarter, or one for the full year.
- Plan out your promotional calendar, and stay committed.
It’s not enough to only craft beautiful food images, you need to get them out in front of potential new clients as well.

Not only do I love the photography, but that flower element with the splashes is such a lovely touch. Amazing as always!
