March’s Theme is ‘Shades of Marigold’

The idea behind these food photography challenges/prompts is to help us all get better at our food photography. The ONE THING that moves the needle faster than anything is .. CONTINUED PRACTICE.
We all know it, but making time for it doesn’t magically happen. We need to be intentional and set time aside.
Joining the challenges is a (fun) way to do this, and by providing a theme, that part of the equation is done for you!
All you need to do is decide which skill(s) you’ll work on.
Whether for a client or for myself, I almost always start by putting together a themed moodboard for getting me in a creative headspace and kick start my inspiration. For this month’s theme I created one from past shoots I’ve already done, collecting my favorites and expanding the color range to include complimentary and analogous colors.
For added inspiration by all means look to Pinterest and instagram, but let’s not forget about other sources – nature, movies, museums, even quiet walks to let it all sink in.

SHADES OF MARIGOLD . THE GUIDELINES
WHAT TO POST:
- The color can be in the food, the surface, background, or the props.
- Use lighting that plays up the boldness of this color. Think Bon Appetit Magazine’s lighting styles or Moody Caravaggio-esque!
- Your choice of image type – recipe, process shot, still life, flatlay…
- For extra fun, snap a bts of your set up and show with your post.
This Prompt is a fun opportunity to utilize color theory.
